EVENTS: Harvest Season in PA Wine Land

Fall is harvest time in Pennsylvania Wine Land, and many vineyards celebrate by inviting the public to celebrate along with them. Check out this sampling of seasonal events and put at least one on your calendar.

Chaddsford Winery Harvest Festival
September 8-9, 15-16, 22-23  •  Chadds Ford, PA

Head to Chester County for this three-week-long blowout featuring an onsite Oktoberfest Bier + Wein Garten, serving up German-style beers and warm Bavarian pretzels; $5 wine tastings (typically $10); $5 off Reserve Winery Tours; complimentary samples of the new Spiced Apple Ginger Mule featuring Boardroom Spirit’s Fresh Ginger Vodka; live music and food trucks.

Naylor Wine Cellars: MyRuralRadio.com Fall Fest 10

Enjoy wine and live tunes, while contributing to a good cause. This harvest and music festival raises money for H.O.P.E. For Cancer Families and The Hopewell Fish & Game Association Youth Fund. Kids under 15 are free, and guests can look forward to fireworks at dusk, nine bands, magic shows, hay rides, pony rides, face painting, wine tours, wine tastings, grape stomping, and food.

Penns Woods Winery’s Sunset Yoga in the Vineyard
September 21  •  Chadds Ford, PA  •  $35

What better way to salute the coming season than with sunset yoga. This 60-minute class, which begins at 6:30 p.m., concludes with a tasting of five wines and a farmer’s plate including a selection of local veggies, cheeses, and crackers. Take home a Penns Woods Winery souvenir glass and take advantage of 10 percent off all wine purchases. Beginners are welcome! Wear comfortable clothes and bring your own yoga mat.

Deer Creek Winery: Farm to Table
September 27 • Shippenville, PA • $75

Experience an evening dinner filled with wine and food from Gruber Farm and Baytree Farm. The local farmers will have an opportunity to talk about what they do and their products, you get to savor some great food, and then dance under the stars.

Tolino Vineyards:  Fall Fest & Fundraiser
September 28  •  Bangor, PA  •  $8 advance; $10 at the door

This 4th annual music festival benefits the Cancer Support Community of the Greater Lehigh Valley. Kids are free (as is a roll in the bounce house), and tickets include wine tasting, a souvenir glass, wagon tours, yard games, and crafting for kids. There will be some seating, but guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs. There will also be food trucks, an ice cream truck, wine slushies, craft beer, and fall-inspired cocktails.

Shade Mountain Winery Annual Harvest Festival
October 13-14  •  Middleburg, PA

This two-day celebration offers the opportunity to spend some time at a gorgeous spot, take part in grape stomping, eat tasty food, take in live entertainment and, of course, sip some wine. On Saturday, there will be a pig roast, a live exhibit from T&D’s Cats of the World, sorbets and ice cream from Sweet Dreams, and music by the Pepper Street Band — bring your own chairs and blankets to enjoy the al fresco tunes. On Sunday, there will be snacks from the Grilled Cheese Cafe Food Truck, music from Runaway Stroller, winery tours, and horse-drawn carriage rides.
