LOCAL PAIRINGS: Raise a Glass to Sparkling Wines

In our new Local Pairings series, we’re teaming up bright lights from the worlds of sports, entertainment, food, and media with a wine expert for a bit of tasting and chatting. 

First up is Cedric Barberet, a Lancaster-based pastry chef who recently won Chopped Sweets, the Food Network reality competition. He’ll be raising a glass with Alexandra Cherniavsky, advanced sommelier and expert in Pennsylvania wines. 

If your associations with sparkling wine are limited to bleary New Year’s Eve celebrations and wedding toasts, then get ready to have your mind blown. This somm/chef duo boldly pair bubbly with a range of sweet and savory dishes while raving about the wine’s versatility. Turns out you don’t need a special occasion to pop a cork — just the right plate of food and a festive mood.

The wine featured in this video is Stony Run Winery’s 2017 Brut Sparkling. This festive wine is dry and complex, containing 60 percent Pinot Noir and 40 percent Chardonnay.
